Lucia, pictured here, is a seven years old girl who lives with her employment mother and her two little siblings (six and 4 years old). Since this school year began, last September, all of them has benefitted from our “Free schools meals program”.This allow them to have at least one meal with the necessary nutrients in their schools, improving their health and school achievement and enable them to follow a normal life.
“I feel good know because I eat with the rest of my classmates and also because I eat fruit and vegetables. I love them! I like taste different things every day. I used to have soup for lunch and for dinner too. Besides my mom is happier and relaxed now. She is attending to the family strengthening program in Aldeas Infantiles and they are helping her to look for a job. Hopefully she will find it!”
The program goes very well and we are achieving our overall goal: to reduce the suffering undergone by children as a result of the current economic situation, and to strengthen and normalize their family environments in order to improve their quality of life.
As a result of the economic crisis in Spain the number of children living below the poverty line has increased dramatically. In Spain the figures are alarming –it is the second country in the European Union with a higher rate of child poverty.
In our prevention programs we do everything possible to support families who are suffering dramatic situations including evictions and lack of economical resources, by helping them through our professionals to find employment and to provide proper care to their children.
During this school year (2015-2016) we are supporting 292 children in our program, spread out in 48 schools around the country. The running cost is 5 euros child/day and 900 euros per child/year.
Ours beneficiaries are children, from 3 to 18 years-old, at social risk from families who are suffering dramatic situations including evictions and lack of economical resources, even basic needs such as food and clothing.
In the name of ours children s we want to say a big thank you to our donors.
