The Access Nature Project is delighted to welcome Dr. Melanie Brown to our esteemed Advisory Board!
Dr. Brown is the Executive Director of the Communiversity of South Africa in Cape Town and President of the Communiversity Foundation. She works in the field of human development and education and holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, along with two master’s degrees—from UC Berkeley and Boston University—in psychology and international education. She is also a certified teacher of Transcendental Meditation.
In 2012, Dr. Brown co-founded the Communiversity of South Africa, a highly successful community-based college preparation program serving youth from high-risk communities in Cape Town, where she continues to serve as Executive Director. In recognition of this work, she received a World of Difference Award from the International Alliance for Women for creating economic opportunities for women in Africa.
In addition to her educational leadership, Dr. Brown is the author or co-author of four books and has appeared as a guest on more than 200 television and radio programs. She brings extensive experience in nonprofit fundraising, with successful grants from leading foundations and organizations such as the Gates Foundation, the Oprah Winfrey Foundation, the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, the Kellogg Foundation, JP Morgan Chase, the McGraw-Hill Companies, the Ford Foundation, and Bank of America/Merrill Lynch.
Dr. Brown has been a long-time supporter of the Access Nature Project, and we look forward to leveraging her expertise to help grow and sustain our programming.
