A Dream Home, GER for Mongolian Needy Children

Jargal is a 16-year-old boy, an 11^th gradestudent who lives with his mother and 3 siblings. His step-father died of illness in 2019 and his mother has no stable job. Mostly, she stays at home and take care of the children as a single parent. They live on subsidies and financial support from relatives and friends. Jargal’s younger brother is studying in the 4^th grade and younger sister is in the 2^nd grade of the primary school and the youngest sister is in the kindergarten.

“I don’t have a stable income but I have to raise four children. I always feel sorry for them because I can’t afford to support my family's living even though I know that the environment is important to children’s growth. I can only continue to rely on my parents and live in a poor quality yurt. Through the TFCF Mongolia Branch Office, they provide us with a new yurt to improve our living environment immediately. I feel very grateful and it gives the children the new hope. Now I plan to actively go out to find a job and hope that I can rely on it in the future. I also plan to grow vegetables in the yard. Although we still need to bear the rent of the land for building the yurt, we don’t have to worry about the living problems, the messy environment, and the dangers of long distances. We really appreciate the assistance of TFCF, donors and the company of social workers, so now our whole family are full of new hope and expect to have a better life in the future. ”

The second wave of COVID-19

The coronavirus is now spreading all over the world and the Mongolian government has announced to close the borders starting from the end of February to the end of August. It also affects Mongolia’s internal economy, and the local unemployment rate continues to rise, especially affecting the lives of families with only one working population. Many families can only rely on welfare subsidies and relief for their livelihoods. Although TFCF Mongolian Branch Office provides basic necessities to maintain their lives and emergency relief assistance for families in economic crisis, many families have no capacity to improve their living environment. This year, there were 50 families who applied for the yurts. In order to protect children's right of residence, we will provide the new yurts to 20 families in urgent need and yurt items to 2 families in the second half of this year. I hope that we can work together with people from all walks of life to help Mongolian children to have a safe house.

Tsetseg is a 12-year-old girl, a sixth grade student who lives with her parents and grows up as the oldest with 2 brothers and 1 sister. In her family, two brothers are studying at the primary school in Grade 2 and 4, and the youngest sister goes to the kindergarten currently.

“I had my four fingers on my left hand cut off years ago and also my wife diagnosed with a mental illness, it was really a difficult time for me and my family got into trouble with the finances afterwards. My family has started to receive the family assistances through TFCF Mongolia branch service since 2017. I am grateful to have TFCF help us find a job and both my wife and I work for coal packing in winters. However, we are unable to have our own ger but living at the borrowed and old ger due to the situation of low income. As a father, I feel sorry that I cannot give my children a good living space or enough food.

My heartfelt thanks to you all for the great donation through TFCF specialized and effective aid programs. In these years, TFCF care and serve us closely, furthermore, give us a home, our own ger at this moment. Because of your support, all of my children have a clean, warm and safe environment to grow up. Thank you very much! I will keep working hard and be a good father to my children.”

Non-stop service

The coronavirus is now spreading all over the world and the Mongolian government has announced to close all schools and kindergartens starting from January 27 to the end of April because Mongolia is bordered by China. All children are not allowed to go out and many parents are going to face unemployment suddenly. The request of our project has been increased rapidly, and there are around 40 families applied our project. TFCF has supported two families by building a new ger. We hope we can maximize into 7 families, and assist 6 families to repair their gers.

We understand that this is a truly global crisis and we will do our best to keep the project moving forward because of your support! Wish all of our assisted families and children to overcome the coronavirus crisis! I also hope all of you are safe and healthy in your country, and it is really hard to face such a difficult situation in the world.
