"Yes, I bleed every month and I am a healthy girl"
My name is Chanchal and I am 15 years old. I love to study & singing. I am a member of my school’s Smiley Girls Club where I interact with many girls from my school. I feel proud to be a part of this club.
Before initiating Smiley Days project in my school, the school girls highly faced problems on menstrual hygiene management because there is no hygiene facility for changing pads and washing, even there was no separate toilet for girls. We girls usually do not attend school, feeling discomfort, less confident, less concentration and limited participation during the periods.
I used to hide in the room and refused to face the male members of my family. I had a fear if they might ask something about my periods. My mother left me when I was a kid, so there was no one in my family with whom I could talk about.
But thanks to Indian Dreams Foundation for initiating Smiley Days project in our school, constructing new toilets for girls, generate awareness on MHM and formed Smiley Girls Club.
Now I proudly say that Yes, I bleed every month and I am a healthy girl. Moreover, most of the girls from my school attend classes regularly whether they have periods or not, they don’t feel shy to talk about the period topic among the peer group.
Smiley Days has given me wings to fly with confidence.
