Dear Friends,
Greetings from Indian Dreams Foundation!
We want to thank everyone for your support and choosing Smiley Days Project to transform the lives of underprivileged girls & women from the urban and rural slums of India. We believe you will be inspired by our project that is dedicated to educate, aware & empower adolescent girls & women towards their reproductive health & well- being and how effectively this project is over overcoming myths & taboos associated with Periods. All because of people like you caring in a very genuine way and transforming the lives of many girls & women.
Smiley Days recently organized training session with Roshni Didis who belong to the same communities where we serve; they are Change Makers for their communities. We make a group of women called Roshni Didi Club from every community that work as the project representatives and connect more women and girls from the communities. These groups of women are trained regularly during informal meetings.
Below is a story of one of our Roshni Didi (Rekha, name changed);
I live with my husband along with my five children in a one-room rental house. My elder daughter is about fourteen years old. I got married at a very young age with a man who worked as a shoe labour. After marriage, I faced a lot of problems related to my abnormal periods. I caught a severe infection in my vagina. One day, I was sitting in a corner and my husband asked me about the reason of my silence. I hid my face with ashamed and rushed towards the room. He followed me continuously till I didn’t tell him the problem that I was facing for last many days. Next day, we went to the doctor and doctor said you had to visit the clinic in minor stage and he gave me medicine for the next two months.
Now I am a mother of three girls but I have decided to give them proper information about periods, so as they will not face the same situation as me.
I thank Smiley Days team for recognizing me as Roshni Didi to empower other women like me and follow healthy habits during periods to stay fit & happy.
