Blood Pressure Monitor Shortages Put Lives at Risk

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for supporting the Give 500 Blood Pressure Monitors to Health Centers project. We sincerely appreciate your generosity and commitment to improving access to basic healthcare services in underserved communities.

High blood pressure remains one of the leading causes of stroke, heart disease, kidney failure, and premature death. Yet in many rural clinics and health centers serving low-income populations, healthcare workers do not have enough blood pressure monitors to screen patients properly. As a result, many people live for years without knowing they have hypertension until a serious medical emergency occurs.

We are grateful for the donations received so far. However, the funds currently available are not sufficient to begin implementation of the project. Additional support is needed before procurement, transportation, distribution, and health worker orientation activities can commence.

This project aims to provide 500 blood pressure monitors to rural clinics and community health facilities where access to diagnostic equipment is limited. The devices will help health workers identify patients with elevated blood pressure earlier, monitor treatment progress, and make more informed clinical decisions. Basic guidance on proper use and maintenance will also be provided to participating facilities.

A simple blood pressure check can help prevent life-threatening complications when problems are detected early. Access to reliable monitoring equipment allows health workers to identify risks sooner and encourage patients to seek appropriate care before conditions become severe.

We remain committed to implementing this project and continue working toward the resources needed to launch the first phase. As progress is made, we look forward to sharing updates, photographs, and stories from the health facilities and communities that will benefit.

Thank you for helping strengthen frontline healthcare services and improve early detection of hypertension in underserved communities.

Warm regards,

Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
