April was the Ramadhan month in Indonesia. It is considered a sacred month and during this month people observe fasting for a whole month. Fasting means abstinence from food and other things relating to worldly passions and desires. This holy month is also a time for solidarity and sharing with the family and the less fortunate people. The principle of fasting is linked to “self-control” thus, considered a spiritual practice leading to building a deeper faith and closer bond with the Lord.
During this month, the children also observed fasting despite the schools already starting to be offline. From mid to end of April and as Eid-al-Fitr draws nearer, we kept the children engaged in various Ramadhan activities to make them better understand the purpose of Ramadhan. The children were encouraged and taught to read the Qu’ran, they listened to religious stories related by the storyteller and they also created various arts and crafts for their festival like making the traditional Ketupat. Kupat, ketupat, or tipat is a Javanese rice cake packed inside a diamond-shaped container of woven palm leaf pouch. The children made them out of paper to create arts and crafts ornaments to celebrate the Idul Fitri festivities.
It was an eventful month for XSProject and the children had an enjoyable time learning more about their holy festival and fasting. After 1 week of celebrating Idul Fitri, the children will go back to school again and resume their studies. Hopefully, with more recharged spirits and energy to enjoy studying again with their friends and teachers.
We appreciate and thank you, our donors, and the community for the continuous support and dedication to our project.
