HART's Education & Care making a difference

By Cheryl Martin | Regional Director

Dear Supporters,

HART continues it’s great work on educating students in the local Pokhara area. The aim is for students to learn about different dog behaviours and students also learnt to protect themselves from dog bites. The lessons are fun and interactive and led my HARTS Communications Officer, Anjani, whose passion and enthusiasm motivates the students enormously. Teaching children about Animal Rights and ensuring people and animals can work together in harmony is important and HART has reached over 100 students in the past month. The team measures the students’ progress of understanding with a pre and post-est.  It’s great to see how much students’ knowledge improves just in a 45 minute session and if this new learning is then passed to others there can be a significant improvement in the lives of animals in Nepal.

No babies, no rabies” is HART’s motto and their neutering and vaccination programmes continue in the Pokhara area and an average of 5-8 dogs are neutered each day. Controlling the dog population controls the spread of disease. Running this programme requires funds and donors contribute to the purchase of  vaccinations, sterliising equipment, swabs, syringes, needles and the list goes on. All of these things make the projects possible and are much appreciated by the team at HART. Funds to HART can truly make a difference. In the past quarter HART has purchased beds for dogs which certainly makes lives of the animals more comfortable, especially when they are recovering from injury or illness.

HART is becoming more and more well known as a place for locals to take dogs in need of care. Just today our taxi driver was explaining how he often brings dogs to HART that he finds hurt or injured.  It’s great for the community to have this facility and it means that people have the opportunity to “do something” when they come across an animal that needs attention rather than having a feeling of helplessness or needing to attend to the animal themselves without expertise.

By supporting HART we are supporting the stories of many dogs who may otherwise be left to fend for themselves often resulting in them not surviving.

With Gratitude,

GVI Nepal Team
