A Happy Puppy and A Happy Community

By Ravi | Project Leader

Hello Supporters!

It was time for us to up our work and therefore on 10th March our team started the satalite dog neutering campaign where the team go on the road around Nepal to neauter street dogs and free roaming dogs. All these acttivies are funded 100% through indivdual donations - you make this happen!!!

Starting at Kapilvastu Municipality a total of 138 dogs have been neutered Among them, 80 were female dogs and the rest 58 were male dogs. The team then moved to Ramgram Municipality where 143 dogs were neutered in the camp, along with one cat. Among the 143 dogs, 77 were female dogs and the rest 66 were male.

A really successful 2 days and then the team headed back to base for 4 days to re-group and get supplies before moving to the next satalite camp, however the team had a busy 4 days back at base as the clinic was overwhelmed.

First day baco the team responded to twelve rescue calls. For the remaining three days, they performed neutering surgeries for pets that were owned by individuals.

The team neutered 34 pets, 21 of which were dogs and 13 were cats. Out of the dogs, 19 were female and 2 were male. Out of the cats, 11 were female and 2 were male. We have noticed an increase in the number of cat owners who are willing to get their cats sterilized which means our outreach education is working!

One of the cases that stood out was a case of pyometra - an accumulation of pus in the uterus. The owner travelled from Syangja, a neighbouring district to save his dog. The infected uterus weighed nearly 7 kg.

Back on the road headiing east the team setup next in Dharan Sub Metropolitan to continue the annual dog neutering program. It is our eighth intervention in the city. A total of 202 dogs was steraized here before they headed to Ram Dhuni to neuter 250 dogs
The most significantly positive aspect of this camp is that only 5 dogs were found with pyometra. This is a massive decline from our past experiences. We keep our fingers and toes crossed that it remains like this for the next two days of the camp.
The team are still out and about on the road but supplies are getting low, while we travel using public transport and stay in home stays and over low cost accommodation to maximise the number of operations we can perform it still costs around $2,000 to setup a satalite camp and we have funding for about 3 more camps before the bank balance hits zero again and our team must return back to base while we stat fundraising again.
On this note we wanted to let our amazing supporters know that next week Mondya 8th April until 11th April all donations up to the value of $50 will be matched by 50% from GlobalGiving so if you donate to us next week, your donation can steralize 2 dogs rather than 1
Thank you for supporting us,
Namaste
