Dear Supporters,

Himalayan Animal Rescue Trust (HART) have continued their amazing work in 2017.  In fact, in January, their statistics showed that they have performed over 10 000 neutering operations since 2009.  Additionally, nearly 14,000 anti-rabies vaccinations have been given and over 3,300 animals were treated for illness or injury.

They have certainly made an impact in Nepal!

MARV Campaign

It's been a busy start to 2017 for the HART team. In February the MARV campaign was carried out in Pokhara. MARV is Mass Anti Rabies Vaccination. During the MARV campaign, staff walk every street of the town vaccinating the dogs and noting any that are not neutered and any in need of treatment. The unsprayed bitches are taken to the clinic to be spayed.  Minor wounds and ailments are patched up straight away. The staff have a phone app which allows then to count the number of dogs who have been vaccinated in the area. Their aim is to reach at least 70% of dogs vaccinated in each area as this is the World Health Organisation guideline. If they don’t reach that number, the staff continue on in the area until the 70% is reached.

Tiger Tops Partnership

HART's recent campaign was typical of the amazing work they do.HART joined forces with Tiger Tops, who have been involved in conservation initiatives for over 50 years. Their goal was to neuter and vaccinate 200 dogs in four days.

These dogs reside in the Amaltari area, Buffer Zone of Chitwan National Park.  Not only do these dogs pose a threat to some of the already endangered wildlife species that live in the area, they also prey of local chickens and goats that are valuable to local owners. Controlling the dog population in the area is therefore extremely important. This campaign resulted in a total 179 dogs being sterilised and vaccinated against rabies and a further 8 dogs were vaccinated against rabies. Added to this, their programme educated locals on topics such as caring of their dogs and awareness of rabies. It was a successful 5 days and the team should be very pleased with their efforts.

Using your donations, we were able to donate £800 to the Tiger Tops Campaign!

Thank you for your generous donation!

With Gratitude,
GVI Nepal
