Celebrating Tihar in Nepal

By Cheryl | Country Director

Dear Supporters,

The festival season’s brings a very special day for all dogs. As part of the Tihar festival we have a special day, Dog Tihar which fell on the 18th October this year. Friends and dog lovers gathered to present garlands and tikka to our furry friends and the dogs enjoyed their own special lunch whilst other guests enjoyed a celebratory cake. Participants shared their commitment to helping the dogs in the community. Our GVI dog Seti was invited to the event and joined the other dogs, most of whom were street dogs who had been treated for a variety of ailments and are under the care of HART. This event was a great opportunity for us to recognize the amazing work that the HART team do for the community. On the 30th October, HART was awarded by the Government for their contributions to society.

Director Khageshwaar Sharma said,

"Throughout the year, all the members of HART have worked very hard to help the animals in need. Since its inception in 2010, we have tried our very best to reach out to more areas and have left no stones unturned in the process. We have endured the heat and sweat in the Terai (Southern Region) as well as battled the heart-piercing cold of the Himalayas; all for the sake of the animals.

During natural calamities in the country, we understand that our efforts need to be multiplied exponentially and we need to take an immediate action. It is really nice to see our hard work being acknowledged. Awards like this add to our zeal for what we do and we would love to share this honour with all friends, well-wishers and supporters of HART".

We complete our report with the sad news that a much valued HART staff member, Asmita Rai, who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident on her return from a satellite neutering camp. Asmita was HART’s first female staff member and worked proudly as a technician for HART. Our sincere condolences to Asmita’s friends, family and colleagues. We thank and acknowledge Asmita for all of her wonderful work with the HART team. May she rest in peace.

With so much gratitude,

GVI Nepal
