We will help 16 kids, between 5 and 14 years, all with neurological disorders, to ameliorate their reading & writing skills through visual therapies, implemented on a daily basis at their special school. The expected results is that they improve abilities in terms of: reading speed, word acknowledging, spacial reading control, writing precision, visual skills, etc..
Seventy (70%) of the information we process at the brain level is visual. Rare diseases of neurological origin, such as Landau-Kleffner, Triple X and Kabuki syndromes or such as tuberous sclerosis, Fragile X or Coffin Siris, usually have the consequence that brain neurons do not correctly process the information they receive from one or more of the senses, including vision. Our kids do not read and write correctly because of this specific vision impairment.
We propose to do a scientific study on BINOCULAR VISION AND PERCEPTION IN CHILDREN WITH RARE DISEASES AND THE IMPACT ON LEARNING. Through individualised visual therapies, we want to demonstrate that the quality of vision in children with rare diseases can be improved and the impact it has on their cognitive, motor and learning abilities.
This hand-on study will provide light on weather visual therapy can impact on the learning, reading and writing skills of kids with neurological disorders.
