Literacy Can Open Doors for Disabled Women

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for your interest in the Help 2,500 Disabled Nigerian Women to Read & Write project. At this time, no donations have been received, so the planned literacy classes and learning support have not yet started.

In many Hausa speaking communities, women and girls living with disabilities are rarely given the chance to attend school. Poverty, distance, and lack of trained teachers make it difficult for them to access even basic education. As a result, many grow up without knowing how to read or write.

This situation limits their ability to understand important information, make decisions, or take part in daily activities that others often take for granted. Some are left dependent on others for simple tasks, while others struggle to find ways to support themselves.

This project is designed to provide literacy classes for 2,500 women and girls using methods suited to different needs. Lessons will be delivered in Hausa, English, and other local languages, with tools adapted for those with visual, hearing, or physical challenges.

With access to learning, these women can begin to read, write, and better understand the world around them. This can help them take part in community life, manage small activities, and support themselves in simple but meaningful ways.

We appreciate your time in learning about this effort and remain hopeful that support will come so these classes can begin and reach those who have long been left without access to education.

Sincerely,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
