Anamika, a 25-year-old woman originating from Solapur, stands as a testament to the strength of the human spirit. Hailing from a modest family with three siblings and hardworking parents, Anamika's determination led her to create a life for herself in the bustling metropolis of Mumbai.
Anamika's world was shattered when she discovered her husband's shocking infidelity with her own mother. The aftermath of this discovery escalated into more verbal and physical violence within her household that Anamika had already endured for years from her husband.
Anamika found herself stranded and vulnerable on the streets of Mumbai after her mother drugged her and abandoned her. She resorted to begging for her survival. In her darkest hour, a compassionate family reached out to her, offering shelter. This simple act of kindness opened the door to employment as a domestic worker, offering her a glimmer of hope and the possibility of a fresh start.
Determined to break free from the cycle of abuse, Anamika pursued a divorce from her husband. Despite the challenges, she initiated legal proceedings at the family court. Recognising the need for her safety and well-being, the court referred her to Urja, our project, dedicated to supporting female survivors of abuse.
Anamika found refuge and support at Urja and began her journey of healing and transformation. Through individual counselling and psychosocial support, she slowly began to recover from the deep emotional wounds inflicted by years of abuse.
Amidst the challenges, Anamika remains steadfast in her dreams of self-sufficiency. She is diligently pursuing a Beautician course, equipping herself with valuable skills for a better future. Her aspirations for stable employment and a place to call her own continue to be her driving force.
However, Anamika's journey is not without its hurdles. Her husband's consistent evasion of court hearings prolongs her legal battle for freedom. Nevertheless, she draws strength from the dedicated caseworkers at Urja, who continue to provide unwavering support.
Urja plays a pivotal role in supporting survivors like Anamika to rebuild their lives.
By contributing to Karuna, you can make a meaningful impact, ensuring women like Anamika have access to legal rights, skills development, and the tools for a sustainable livelihood.
With support positive change is possible even in the face of adversity.
Your support can truly make a difference.
