New year update
By James Oyugi Were | Project Leader
Dear Friends,
I hope this finds you well. We are doing okay in Kisumu Kenya where we normally have perennial flooding.
Last year experienced much rainfall which was dubbed El nino by the weather forecasters. It started last year November and extended to January 2024.
The rainfall destroyed our roads, houses, farm produces and household property. This rendered some of the people from our community homeless, some lost their incomes as they could not produce farm produce and take to the markets hence losing their income, some of the people from the community were displaced hence moved to higher grounds while others got water borne diseases which is very difficult to treat.
JW foundation worked with various partners to help mitigate the effects of flooding in Nyalenda slums community, the biggest informal settlement within Kisumu city. We gave out food to our people, mobilized resources to shelter those who were displaced and conducted medical camps to the affected people.
The rains have gone down but we are very much prepared to help our people. We still request our friends and partners to come on board. God bless you for having a good heart to help.

Regular updates
By James Oyugi | Project Leader
Dear Partners,
The rains are almost here and the weather forcasters have warned that there shall be El nino rains beginning October 2023 in Kenya. people are struggling with life as the cost of living has gone so high. The governed has issued red allert to the people who living in lowland areas to vacate and relocate, but the biggest question is to where? that is the only place they call home and moving is not an option since majority do not have money to pay house rents.
JWF is looking for partnerships with various organizations and friends to help mitigate the intended effects of floods and even try to control floods. we had the county government do some desiltation of some water channels, rivers and trenches to easen the flow of water during rainy season.
We are getting prepared to help our people with food, shelter and even with medication during this time of the season because we normally have spread of Malaria,Amoeba,Cholera and Bilhazia. This can be controlled by providing medication and ensuring that people stay safe in evacuation centers.
we have even identified evacuation centers where we shall move our people. what now matters is only how we are going to feed them, provide medication to them in those centers. we hope that with your support. it will be a success. lets put our heads together to as to pull together.

Floods updates
By James Oyugi were | Director
Hello friends,
We hereby inform you that as from Novemeber last year 2022 to April 2023, Kisumu experienced high rainfall that displaced several people, destroyed properties and destroyed farms. This rendered so many people homeless as they had to evacuated to safer grounds. It affected this year's harvest as many farm produce were destroyed by floods.
JWF came in to help mobilize resources both locally and internationally to help clothe, feed and even re build the houses for our people. GlobalGiving gave me a platform to help share with our various friends on what was happening in Kenya.
We still believe that we can still help with those who were affected. The rains have stopped but the effect is great...so many children stopped going to school because they were affected, some families have not returned to their houses because they were destroyed, some will not have any harvest because their farms were destroyed and washed away. We still need to give them hope and together we can still do it.
Thank you various partners and friends for making this happen. We believe that when we come together, great things happen.
