Little Gustukas
Gustuk visited Switzerland for the 36th time. Can you believe how time flies? The details of the visit are shared by his mother Ugne:
"The visit lasted a little longer (4 days) than usual because two visits (two general anesthesia) were scheduled at different hospitals. A routine orthoptic eye examination was performed before anesthesia at Jules-Gonin Eye Hospital and confirmed for almost 9 months during anesthesia the ebb period of the old tumor mass foci lasts, no new foci were detected, so the treatment procedures were not applied
I heard this magical, much-awaited news from my beloved doctor, Dr. C. Stathopoulos in the doorway. While still lurking in the consultation room, where the attending physician usually comes and reports the knowledge of the screening/treatment procedures, the results of the orthoptic examination, the readings of the homework are discussed and the tentative date of the screening/treatment procedures is set, and then after changing into the disposable medical clothing provided by the hospital, I heard Gust's uncontrollable screams and I saw a general practice nurse (who had already been there more than once when Gust had severe side effects of anesthesia), inviting me not to wait for the results to be reported by the doctor, to change clothes as soon as possible and run to the post-operative ward, because it is easier to control the chaos with joint efforts.
This is already the fourth such complicated time of recovery from anesthesia during the entire course of the disease, when Gust has a rare, difficult to explain reaction to general anesthesia, the manifestation of which is unpredictable. After waking up, Gust suffered longer than usual inadequate reaction to the environment, distraction, restlessness, temporary memory loss, uncontrollable screaming, shouting, squealing, involuntary movements of arms, legs, but fortunately, thanks to the combination of painkillers, the warmth of his parents' hands and the sound of a melody, Gust I managed to calm down, fall asleep, rest a little, and after waking up and getting stronger, I was refreshed again and energetically realized the never-ending children's plans for the day.
Due to such stormy side effects, it was doubtful whether the anesthesia (additional MRI) scheduled for the following morning at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) could be carried out due to the possible risk of damage to the pineal gland (children with bilateral retinoblastoma due to a mutation in a certain cancer-suppressing gene , has an increased risk of getting pineoblastoma), but the technical part of the MRI went smoothly (we will find out the detailed analysis of the test results after the interdisciplinary assessment of the specialist doctors), and the recovery from anesthesia was incredibly smooth - calm, restrained, with one snoring. The next visit is scheduled for a longer one break between visits - mid-July.
With rushing heat and a summer filled with greenery, everyone! Although the pace of life is getting faster and faster, we wish to find time to rest from everyone and everything, including our thoughts, to stop for a while and take a break. To draw the sources of energy, enthusiasm, strength and faith provided by nature, which help to overcome life's challenges. The warmth of our hearts goes to YOU, for your sincere concern, attentiveness, all kinds of support and help."
