Rural Women Cannot Earn to Support Their Children

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We sincerely thank the donors who have supported the Help One Woman Start POS or Agric Business for $20 project. Your generosity reflects care for women who struggle daily to provide for their families. At present, however, the contributions received are still too small to begin the training and startup distribution planned under this project.

Across many rural communities in Nigeria, women face serious economic hardship. Some are widows who lost their husbands and sources of income. Others are divorced or abandoned and must raise children on their own. Without a reliable way to earn money, these women often depend on relatives or neighbors who may not be able to help consistently.

When mothers lack income, the effects reach their children. Many families struggle to provide daily meals, pay school expenses, or cover medical treatment when illness occurs. Without support, these households remain trapped in poverty.

This project will train 1,500 women to begin small income activities through POS services or agricultural work. POS agents help community members withdraw money, transfer funds, or pay bills using mobile banking devices, earning a small fee from each transaction. Others may begin small-scale farming activities that generate income from crops or produce.

Each participant will receive training, a startup kit, and a savings card designed to help them manage their daily earnings. The savings card will allow women to track income and gradually build financial stability.

With small businesses in place, women will be better able to provide food, school expenses, and basic care for their children. Over time, some participants may expand their businesses or join local savings groups.

Although early donations have been received, the available amount cannot yet cover the first phase of training and distribution. Further support is still needed before activities can begin.

Sincerely,

Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
