Help raise awareness about animal rights in Sweden

Every summer since 2006, Djurens Rätt has arranged a summer tour in Sweden. We visit music festivals, markets, cultural events, Pride festivals and other events to spread information about the situation for the animals in factory farms, fur farms, animal experiments and other areas where animals are being exploited and suffer. This year we focused on spreading awareness about the chicken industry, with the goal to guide more people to make animal friendly choices in their everyday lives. After two years of the pandemic we were finally back on the streets more or less as usual, campaigning for animal rights, and specifically, better conditions for the chickens in Sweden. 

As you might remember is you have received our previous reports, Djurens Rätt focuses on creating as much impact as possible for as many animals as possible. That’s why we have been working on raising awareness about the chicken industry during the last editions of our summer tour - and so we did this year as well.

In total, we visited 24 different events this summer, carried out 64 days of campaign work and in 13 different cities! We have attended some of Sweden's biggest music festivals such as Lollapalooza, Way out West, Malmöfestivalen, but also several local events in smaller cities, like Hörby, Uddevalla and Trollhättan. We have talked about animal rights with visitors during Pride weeks, as well as with politicians and other decision makers, when we attended the biggest political gathering in Sweden, Almedalsveckan. 

More than 50 volunteers took part in the summer tour! The tour would not be able to arrange without our amazing volunteers. We are very happy that so many volunteers chose to take part in the Djurens Rätt summer tour. Together they volunteered for more than 1500 hours, all for the cause of the animals. 

Thanks to the fantastic team and the engagement of you, our donors in the summer tour, we have achieved; 

• We could welcome 590 new members to Djurens Rätt, who all took the fantastic choice to be part of Sweden's oldest and biggest organisation for animal rights and animal welfare. 
• We have handed out more than 5000 magazines and flyers, full of plant-based recipes.
• 68 people took part in our chicken free challenge, where they signed up for testing chicken free vegan recipes for four weeks. One completed challenge equals one saved chicken! 
• Had thousands, and thousands of conversations about animal rights !

Within the coming months we will start planning the summer tour for next year. Our goal is to create even more engagement and change for the animals!

For the 17th year in a row, Djurens Rätt is on tour in Sweden, where we visit music festivals, markets, cultural events, Pride festivals and other events to spread information about our work, the situation for animals in Sweden and how we together can make a change and create a better future for the animals. This year we focus on sharing awareness about the chicken industry - with the goal of guiding more people towards making animal friendly choices in their everyday lives. 

After two years of the pandemic we were very excited to finally have a restriction free summer! We are very happy to be back on the streets and campaigning for animal rights and specifically, better conditions for the chickens in Sweden. 

As you might remember from previous reports, Djurens Rätt focuses on creating as much impact as possible for as many animals as possible. That’s why we have been working on raising awareness about the chicken industry during the last editions of our summer tour - and so we do this year as well. 

So far we visited 14 different events, which included 30 days of campaign work where we talked to festival visitors about veganism, animal rights and how to create a better future for the animals. 

Our campaign work has, up to now, resulted in:

• hundreds (or maybe thousands) of conversations about animal rights
• around two hundred new members who made the fantastic choice to join the organisation after those conversations
• hundreds of flyers handed out, containing plant based recipes and information about the situation for the chickens 

A new feature this year is that the visitors can sign up for a challenge to be "chicken free" for three weeks, and many people have taken the pledge already. We hope they will see how easy it is to replace chicken with plant based alternatives.

For the children we have educational games in the tent, for example they can puzzle the right paw print with the right animal. This has been a much appreciated activity among our younger visitors.

And as always, our chicken mascot is a great hit - dancing and spreading happiness among our visitors. 

We have ten more events to visit before our summer tour ends, and we are really looking forward to all of them.
