The 13th summer tour by Djurens Rätt is now finished and we are looking back at a great summer with inspiring meetings, fantastic volunteers joining the tour, great tour stops and hard work for the animals.
This summer we have campaigned for a ban on fur farming in Sweden. To engage people we have visited a lot of placed and talked to thousands of people from all over Sweden. In total we have been on 72 tour stops around the country. Djurens Rätt has been seen at the largest festivals in Sweden as well as small markets and fairs. After this summer we are enthusiastic to share results and steps we have taken to raise awareness about animal rights around Sweden.
Spreading the message about animal rights
Every summer we have an impact on people by conversations and giving out information about the situation for animals. We spread information leaflets, vegan recipes, our member magazine and other pamphlets. This summer we have handed out close to 11 000 units of materials!
Most of the people spreading the word for animals on the summer tour are volunteers for our organization. Over 70 volunteers committed themselves this summer and have joined one or more tour stops. It is thanks to them that we have been able to do a huge work for the animals this summer as well.
20 000 Fur Free Pledges!
This summer we have campaigned for a ban on fur farming which has been a part of a bigger campaign called the Fur Free Pledge. During the summer tour we have collected 20 000 Fur Free Pledges, which shows a strong commitment for the issue. The vast majority of people we have met are critical to the fact that 1 million minks are killed every year in Sweden to become fur products. Since before we know that the opinion against fur farming in Sweden is strong and it’s high time for the Swedish government to make a big change for the minks. Right now there is an investigation being made on the mink farming in Sweden, the results of which are to be ready in January. We will continue campaigning with the Fur Free Pledge during the time of the investigation and talk to politicians about the issue. We expect to have an impact on the results and our goal is that Sweden next year will announce the beginning of the end to mink farming.
If you want to help us with our goal we would be very thankful.
You can sign our petition on the issue at change.org https://www.change.org/p/ban-fur-farming-in-sweden .
You can also donate to our summer tour and help us do even better summer tour with more resources the coming years.
Aiming for 2019
In conclusion, we are happy that the summer tour 2018 has been successful. This year’s edition is over and has been an important part of our work for animal rights. Now we are aiming for next year and the summer tour 2019.
