After 4 impactful years on Samos, our humanitarian mission on the island will pause temporarily.
Despite numerous challenges, lives were transformed with our holistic Camp to CampUs’ approach. We provided multiple programs and activities, ranging from life-saving to improving general livelihood. In close collaboration with residents of the camp, volunteers from around the globe, local Greek stakeholders, UN organizations and colleague NGO’s, we have been able to transform and relief the dire humanitarian situation of thousands of people in- and outside the reception facilities.
Unfortunately, due to policy changes and other factors beyond our control, our presence inside the CCAC (Closed controlled Asylum Center) on Samos was revoked earlier this year. And while our presence and impact was highly valued by the camp residents, sustaining resources became challenging.
Due to a surge in population over the past months on Aegean Greek islands, we have come to conclusion that our means and capacity can only reach as far as the Greek island of Lesvos. So, until further notice, this is where we will continue working and advocating for our return to reception centers.
We are grateful for all our supporters, donors and partners for enabling us to to make a lasting impact on many lives, while we worked alongside the camp resident community and local Greek community.
If you want to continue supporting the residents of the refugee camps, please consider donating to our fundraiser for our intervention in Lesvos. With more than 5000 people resisiding in a camp meant for half that number, residents of the camp are facing a lack of food, water, shelter and all the unrest and violence that is occuring as a consequence. Please donate to help people in need!
