Bakarka IDP camp, located in the northeastern part of Erbil, Iraq, was established in 2013 and remains home to about 1,600 Iraqis who fled areas such as Mosul, Tal Afar, Saladin, and Sinjar.
On December 11, 2022, an electrical fire broke out in the Baharka camp destroying 7 shelters, leaving a 17 year-old boy dead. In addition to the tragic loss of life, seven families’ homes were completely destroyed.
Peace Winds’ employees visited Baharka the very next week to assess the damage and followed with a delivery of replacement appliances (refrigerators and gas ovens/stoves). Thank you to our GlobalGiving donors who made it possible for Peace Winds to aid the survivors of the Baharka Camp fire.
