Egoli Africa is based out of Uganda. They aim to give the community tools to improve their circumstances, as well as the basic needs to become independent and self-sustainable through education and work.
Birthing Kit Foundation has partnered with Egoli Africa since 2015, sending clean birth kits for distribution to women in their communities.
Since the start of the Covid pandemic, Egoli Africa experienced an increase in pregnant teenagers. During this period, they handed out birth kits to the youngest mothers-to-be ever; girls as young as 12, 13 and 14. The Covid pandemic has had a destructive impact on education in Uganda in general, but also on the well-being of young girls.
Many of these young girls do not have access to professional assistance during childbirth and it is particularly difficult when compared to an adult woman who has already settled in life, and has a family of her own.
The impact of pregnancy is significant for a girl/teenager who still lives with her parents and depends on them, and not the father of the child. The pregnancy will also see her drop out of school. Egoli Africa have expressed how much the clean birth kits in this instance, make a huge difference.
