As Syrians return to rebuild their country and their lives, International Blue Crescent is working alongside the many returning, offering support in the form of expanded programming and services. IBC has been working in Syria for decades and now, utilizing our existing network and presence, we can offer food and water, safe housing, winter clothing, and hygiene kits, as well as health services, to more people with more needs. Our aim is to support all who seek a better life and brighter future.
Since the escalation of hostilities on Nov.28, approximately one million people have been displaced internally. This includes 155,000 people experiencing secondary displacement. The majority of those displaced are women and children and many more are returning to Syria. Reception centers are overcrowded, hygiene, water, and food are limited and the price of goods has soared. Security is unpredictable, health care is limited and many people are left vulnerable and scared.
IBC, a Turkish organization which has served the region for decades including in Syria and via cross-border programming will continue to offer expanded services, delivering food, water, hygiene stations and supplies, medical care, psychosocial support, women and child-friendly safe spaces and secure housing. Further, we aim to broaden and enrich our long-term programming focusing on sustainable development including livelihood training, education, reconstruction, and economic revitalization.
The Syria Homecoming program will support hundreds of thousands of people rebuilding their lives. IBC supports improved nutrition through food kits and meals, protection from waterborne diseases via clean water and hygiene, and improved maternity outcomes with prenatal vitamins and care. Children are supported in education with emergency learning, areas to play and specialized psychosocial support. Mental health care and support for all will help a nation heal.
