Hospital classroom for sick children in Medellin

A few days ago, a little 4-year-old girl arrived at our Children's Hospital-San Vicente Fundacion, Paloma, who radiates happiness and tenderness through her smile and personality.

At two years old, she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus, a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin, and which is most often diagnosed in children, adolescents, or young adults.

Yina, her mother, decided to consult since the little girl suffered from malnutrition because her symptoms consisted of vomiting and loss of appetite. After being referred to several Hospitals, she arrived at our Children's Hospital, where since she began her process, she has received the necessary care during her relapses.

According to Yina, Paloma stands out for being a very tender and friendly girl, who likes to explore and learn new things. That is why she daily carries out the activities proposed by the teachers in the Hospital classroom, which help her to develop her cognitive abilities and complement her learning, encouraging her to have fun and let her imagination run wild while she learns.

Miguel is a child who is in the process of recovery in our Children's Hospital because a few days ago he suffered some burns in the lower part of his body. He is 6 years old and currently lives in Bello, a Municipality located near Medellín, Colombia.

Miguel's recovery process has been complex for him and his mother, as the nurses must wash and heal every 48 hours and thus get their wounds to heal completely and without problems.

This little boy is very quiet and calm but when he feels confident with people he becomes very cheerful, friendly and loves to smile. She likes to attend the activities carried out in the Hospital Classroom and do crafts, because she is learning to read and write, and her mother considers that this space contributes a lot to her learning and recovery process. She says she is very grateful to the professors and the staff of the Hospital because they are always willing to attend to the needs of her son.
