Hot lunches for 500 Cambodian children and youth

Dear friend,

A huge thank you for your donations and support to help the children and youth M’Lop Tapang is working with.

With your help, hundreds of students at our Education Center continue to enjoy a healthy breakfast, a hot lunch, and healthy afternoon snacks every day.  For many of them, particularly the ones living in poverty households, these are the most nutritious foods they will have to eat all day.

Your contributions are helping children like 8-year-old Sophea*, one of the newest students to start attending classes at our Education Center.  Growing up in a very unstable home life, until she started studying at M’Lop Tapang she had never been to school before.  She used to just stay at home and often had to take care of her 2-year-old little brother.  Now she attends classes every day, and her younger brother receives supervised daytime care in our Baby Care Program.

“I am happier here than staying at my house.  I have friends to play with and toys and things that I don’t have at home.  And I am really happy that I don’t have to take care of my brother all the time and have to carry him everywhere.”

From all of us here at M’Lop Tapang we would like to say thank you again for your generous donations that support the work our teams are doing here in Cambodia.

We believe that every child has the right to an education.  We know that education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty; supporting child growth and development, and laying the groundwork for a better future.  Sadly, we continue to meet many children who, because of poverty, have never had the chance for a proper education.

M’Lop Tapang’s non-formal education (NFE) programs help children and youth who have never been to school (or have been out of school for a long time) catch up with their studies. The goal is that they will be reintegrated into the local public school system at a grade level suitable for their age.  So far this year more than 200 new children have joined these classes at our Education center!

Because of your help, these boys and girls are not only getting a chance to learn to read and write, they are also being given access to free medical care, hot nutritious meals, supervised extracurricular activities, and social support. Thank you!
