A house for eight brothers

By Jose Arevalo | Benefactor Services Director

At the age of 23, this young man is the head of his house. He lives with his mother and 8 siblings.  Their living conditions aren’t good at all.  In fact they are terrible!  Their house is made of sugarcane walls, a mud floor and a tin roof.  The father abandoned their house because he decided to have a relationship with another woman.  This is one of the reasons why the family can’t succeed economically.  They can barely eat three meals a day and they don’t have access to clean water.  The family works hard to improve their life unfortunately they are unable to break out of poverty because they are a large family.

Thanks to the support and help from AsociaciónNuestrosAhijados in El Salvador the children can now go to school and have a better chance at a descent future.  Education changes a life.  We believe this and this is why we have to help children achieve their goals.  Because we understand that children who are better fed learn more we provide them with a monthly basket of food that includes basic grains, sugar, pastas and a personal hygiene kit.

Because we know the desperate situation of this family Asociación Nuestros Ahijados, has also supported them in building a new house, so they could have a safe place to live.  Everyone should and deserves to be in a better home and in a safer environment.  This referring to the eight children in this family that we help.  All the children have been constant in school, been mindful of how important it is to learn every day and this due to the follow up of our social workers department.  We wish we could do more.

The oldest boy is studying during the weekends because he spends the entire week working hard to support his family.

The entire family is grateful but specifically this young man.  We are trying to change his life and believe that we can do this through education.  We hope and want to keep his dreams alive so he can break out of poverty and help his family do the same.
