By Venkat Ramakrishnan | Project Leader
Silambam-26-02-2021
Silambam is a Indian martial art that
originates in southern India, and is an
optional part of Isha Vidhya’s sports
curriculum. It helps to improve flexibility,
agility, and hand-eye coordination.
10 Isha Vidhya students won top prizes -
gold medals and certificates at the
inter-school Silambam competition
conducted by the World Silambam
Sports Association on 31st January
at Tharuvai grounds in Tuticorin,
Tamilnadu, India. About 200 students
from 20 students participated in this
zonal level event.
It’s heartwarming to note that
Isha Vidhya practiced for the event
in spite of the Covid-19 situation,
by strictly following the Covid-19
protocol.
Sports is an important focus area

Success Story Of Madhuran
By Venkat Ramakrishnan | Project Leader
Madhuran-24-02-2021
Shares Madhuran, who was a student
of Isha Vidhya:
“My name is Madhuran. I joined Isha Vidhya
in 2nd grade, and completed 12thgrade. I then
pursued my college. I joined Chandy Polytechnic
College, and completed my Diploma in
Mechanical Engineering with 80% marks.
The memories of my school life period are
definitely a treasure to cherish for the rest of life.
My school continuously played an effective role
in honing my life. It is a golden time period of
learning. It truly impacted my life. I got self-
confidence, motivation, and the will to do the
best.
Some campus interviews were conducted by
my college, and I was selected by Apollo Tyres
company inChennai. Now I work there, and
giving my best. I am always thankful to my
donors who supported me financially to
complete my school studies successfully.”
We are inspired that Isha Vidhya made a
difference in Madhuran’s life in educating
and enabling him to get a job. Isha Vidhya
educates rural children in India, so that they
and their families get out of poverty cycles
by getting gainful employment to support
their families.
If you would like to take part in Isha Vidhya’s
journey, you can consider making a recurring
donation at the link provided.
Thanks for all that you have done for Isha Vidhya,

Spirited Sports Coach
By Venkat Ramakrishnan | Project Leader
Dhanapushpam-20-02-2021
Dhanapushpam, Physical Education
Teacher (P.E.T) at Isha Vidhya Nagercoil,
has been doing wonders, training
winners in individual and team sports
over the past five years. In 2019-20,
the school won the First prize at the
zonal level in 15 individual events, and
8 prizes in team events. The school
walked away with 41 prizes at the
zonal level in that year!
Dhanapushpam was interested in
Sports from her childhood. She was
influenced by a relative who was
a successful sportsperson. As a
student, she participated in a running
event at the District level and won
the First prize. This was a turning
point in her life. She started focusing
on a career as aSports Trainer. She
completed her B.P. Ed. and M.P. Ed.
to become a passionate Physical
Education teacher.
At Isha Vidhya, her day starts at
07:30 AM with a regular workout
and practice for sports-loving
students, followed by training
students throughout the day.
She does the workout again in
the evening with interested
students before she calls it a
day. Her enthusiasm for training
well shines through when
she accompanies her students
unasked for outstation
competitions.
Dhanapushpam is constantly
on lookout for students who
show interest and enthusiasm
in sports, and motivates them
to strive for excellence, engaging
them with the benefits of good
health, and perhaps the
opportunity to land a secure
Government job if they win at
the District, State, or National
level.
Dhanapushpam says she feels
proud when students from other
schools acknowledge Isha Vidhya's
Sports excellence at sport meets
and when her neighborhood
children wish they could study at
Isha Vidhya for their sports.
She finds her journey with Isha
Vidhya gratifying and a great
opportunity for self-development.
