Project Update

Two weeks ago, I returned to Israel after a five-week working visit to southern Madagascar.

During this visit, I took the opportunity to strengthen relationships with newly appointed government officials. We held meetings with the Governor of the Androy Region, the Mayor of Ambovombe, the Regional Director of the Ministry of Population, and other key stakeholders.

Throughout these meetings, one message came up repeatedly: there is an urgent and genuine need to create quality employment opportunities for young women in the region. For many of them, access to vocational training and meaningful employment is the pathway out of poverty, dependency, and violence. It was clear that local leaders see great value in this initiative and are eagerly waiting for the project to become a reality.

These meetings will help strengthen cooperation with local authorities, who will become key partners in implementing the project once the necessary funding has been secured.

I would also like to recognize our local partner, Mamy Duata, CEO of TERATANY NGO, who insisted on participating in every meeting despite being in the final stage of her pregnancy. Just one week after I returned to Israel, she gave birth to a baby boy. Her dedication to this project, even during such an important personal moment in her life, reflects the strength of our local partnership and the deep commitment to creating opportunities for women in southern Madagascar.

This visit also marked a personal milestone, as I have now spent more than 200 days living and working in Madagascar over the past several years. This long-term presence continues to deepen my understanding of local challenges and ensures that our initiatives are built around the real needs of the communities we serve.

A major focus of this visit was the relocation of Ny Trano Manga (The Blue House), Madagascar's first women's shelter, into a larger and significantly improved facility. This move represents another important step in expanding our ability to provide protection and support for women and girls who have experienced violence.

Alongside this work, our meetings and field activities also focused on advancing preparations for the Employment Center and Technology Campus for Women in Southern Madagascar.

Although construction of the center has not yet begun, we have made significant progress in recent months in building the organizational, governmental, and community foundations that will enable the project to move forward immediately once funding has been secured. We are actively strengthening partnerships, working closely with local authorities, and preparing the infrastructure needed for a smooth and effective launch.

The support of GlobalGiving donors is already helping us move this preparation phase forward by strengthening local partnerships and building the foundation required to bring this project to life.

I recently published a comprehensive article presenting the vision and planning behind this initiative. If you would like to learn more about the project and its long-term impact, I warmly invite you to read it using the link below.
