Dear friends of USAP Community School,
As we round the half way point of 2023, we reflect on what so far has been a fantastic year.
The year started with the welcoming of our new Head of School, Ms. Chiedza Mufunde, a USAP Alum herself who brings a rich background in psycho-social support as well as organizational management to our new chapter of school leadership. In her first six months with us, she has carried on the strong precedent that founding Head James Linville set to strive to be a community that lives by its stated values as well as one that works hard to strive for excellence.
Our students sprung into action first term with 25 of them as finalists for the Zimbabwe Science Fair. They scooped numerous gold, silver and bronze medal prizes and several won special awards. Ruvarashe Moyo, a L6 student, continued to represent Zimbabwe at ISEF in Dallas where she won a Ricoh $10,000 scholarship.
In other extracurriculars, our musical talent shown at the National Institute of Allied Arts where our students won Honors as well as an African music accapella cup for the Eistedfod Music Festival. Our chess team came third at the St John's chess festival, whlie our boys' football (soccer) team remains undefeated after seven wiins. Archery contines a strong sport that our students explore, with three of our students making national team marks and one who will represent Zimbabwe in South Africa in July.
During our intersession week of workshops at the end of the first term, a group of 8 from our Traditional Dance Club traveled to Rwanda for a one week cultural exchange.
The Class of 2022 have as of now received over $6 million in scholarships to attend top universities in the United States,. Ghana and Kenya. We wish them all the best in their next chapters, hoping their USAPCS values are baked into them.
None of these achievements would be possible without your continued support. Thank you for believing in the transformative power of education for our students.
With gratitude,
Rebecca and the USAPCS and Education Matters Team
