The project “Little Butterflies” is born with the intent of giving legal, psychological and sanitarian help to children victims of sexual violence.
In the context of Manaus, located in the north-east of Brasil, between the Rio Negro and the Rio Amazon, Father Joaquim has accepted the difficult challenge of helping boys and girls who were victimes of sexual violence in the domestic or street environment by organizing psychological sessions for them and their families, as well as extra activities, such as field trips in the nature which surrounds Manaus and to the local Institut for Amazonian Research, so that children can form an environmental consciousness.
Father Joaquim, furthermore, is engaged in an active program of prevention of sexual abuse through school activities. He is also in contact with local ONGs to form a cooperation in the region to reach out to as many children and families as possible.
Joaquim has received, for his strong and constant engagement with children, from the Legislative Assembly of the Amazonas, a special mention as his is one of the best projects of the State.
We hope his work, and that of the volunteers he so proudly trains, will continue as long as there will be children out there in the region in need of assistance. We thank you for all the help you are giving us, helping us to reach out to situations which are in need of attention, and hope you will follow us in this project of great engagement!
