Bringing love, protection and care for up to 30 babies, abandoned by their parents or made orphans through conflict, in Kamiankse's (Ukraine) Children's Hospital and Baby Home (orphanage). Also, preventing abandonment of babies and young children in Transnistria, Moldova through family support.
War creates orphans. Poverty can lead mothers to abandon their babies. Alcohol or drugs bring small comfort to parents but neglect for their children. Without their mother young children have no one to care for them in hospital or during the day. Who will ensure that clothes, nappies and medicines are not taken by others? Our nurse will be their "mother" in hospital. Our social worker and therapist are loving guardians and carers in the orphanage.
Abandoned babies will receive love and protection whilst in hospital and a baby home. City finances will be even more depleted due to war allowing inadequate provision of food, clothing and hygiene products to be provided - who else will care for these forgotten little lives? When abandoned babies receive little love and affection in the Baby Home. Our 2 dedicated staff give up to 20 babies all the care they need.
The future of Ukraine is uncertain but these babies will receive the protection and love to give hope of better future prospects for the abandoned. Our work extends to seeking to reunite the baby, once healthy, with their parents. Giving a family a new start can truly transform lives.
