The Abandoned Babies Program during lockdown

By Tina Moira | Project Leader

Dear Supporter,

Through our partner we support a full-time nurse who attends the city hospital in order to help abandoned babies or very small orphaned children who are being treated, in a special ward reserved for them.

The role of the nurse is to provide full care for these children. She replaces the role of a caring mother. She changes their nappies, feeds them, changes their clothes, goes shopping for essentials, washes them, cuts their nails, massages them, puts them to sleep, reads them stories, administers the medicines prescribed by the doctors, takes them out for walks, talks to them and plays with them. Above all she gives them love, care and attention, and prays for them.

During the strict lockdown measures the workers in the Baby Home were unable to work but are now back.

The nurse in the hospital has moved rooms as she was working in the ward dealing with children with infections and these have all been moved to a separate hospital at present dealing with infections. She works with other babies without parents caring for them in the hospital.

Ukraine will extend its COVID-19 quarantine measures to June 22 but started to lift more severe restrictions.

Thank you for being a substantial part of this life transforming work.
