Inter Care provides medical supplies to rural health units across sub-Saharan Africa to support patients who are living in poverty and cannot afford to pay for their treatment. Many of the medicines we supply, are lifesaving. If we were unable to send these medicines, many vulnerable patients' lives would be at risk. This project aims to send medicines to rural health units in Sierra Leone to provide treatment free of charge and support approximately 7,530 of the poorest patients.
The facilities Inter Care support have little access or funds to buy lifesaving medicines to support patients who present with infections or other medical needs. Sierra Leone is positioned at 181 out of 191 countries and territories - one of the world's lowest ratings on the Human Development Index (HDI). This index measures long-term progress in 3 areas of human development (HD): access to knowledge, a decent standard of living and a long and healthy life.
Inter Care supports qualified, medical personnel who deliver medical care in the most difficult circumstances. Our partners have great difficulty obtaining good-quality medicines due to various challenges in-country. As a licensed UK charity, we can procure and supply high-quality donated and purchased medicines for each health unit. They can choose from a selection of medicines appropriate to their needs at that time and we will send the medicines direct to the health unit from the UK.
The project will treat 7,530 people in Sierra Leone who may not have had access to any treatment free of charge. The long-term impact for individual patients will be the ability for their continued education, employment and ensure they can look after their families and home. We will be improving the lives of 7,530 patients in Sierra Leone suffering from infections, diseases and other medical needs.
