At the Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF), we recognize that widows often face unique hardships, including economic hardship, social exclusion, and emotional distress. The “Restoring Hope: Lifting 3000 Widows in Nigeria” initiative was created to provide comprehensive support to empower widows across Nigeria, giving them the resources, skills, and confidence to rebuild their lives.

Widows are vital members of their communities, yet many struggle to meet basic needs or secure sustainable livelihoods. Through this project, we aim to restore hope, dignity, and independence, while enabling widows to become self-sufficient and active contributors to their families and society.

Project Activities During This Period

During this reporting period, the project team focused on planning, community engagement, and preparatory activities, in anticipation of full project implementation.

Key activities include:

• Mapping and identifying widow participants across target communities
• Engaging local community leaders and partners to ensure effective outreach
• Designing empowerment programs, including vocational training, small business guidance, and financial literacy
• Preparing logistics, training materials, and starter kits for beneficiaries

At this stage, no donations have yet been received for this project. Despite this, the team has been actively laying the groundwork to ensure rapid, meaningful implementation once funding is available.

Challenges

The project faces several challenges, including:
• Limited access to funding for training, materials, and empowerment programs
• Reaching widows in remote or underserved communities
• Providing tailored support that addresses both economic and emotional needs

Despite these challenges, the team remains dedicated to restoring hope and building resilience among widows in Nigeria.

Looking Ahead: Little by Little Campaign

We are encouraged by the ongoing Little by Little fundraising campaign, which provides an opportunity for supporters to make a tangible impact in the lives of 3000 widows.
Donations during this campaign, while matching funds remain, will directly enable:
• Vocational training, skills development, and entrepreneurship support
• Distribution of starter kits and essential resources to widows
• Financial literacy sessions and mentorship programs
• Community support initiatives to foster emotional well-being and resilience

Even small contributions can help transform lives, providing widows with the tools and confidence to regain independence and stability.

Next Steps

Once funding is received, the project will:
• Launch empowerment and vocational training programs for widows
• Distribute starter kits, tools, and resources to support livelihoods
• Provide mentorship and guidance to ensure sustainable economic activity
• Monitor participants’ progress and adjust programs for maximum impact
• Expand support to additional widows based on feedback and lessons learned

These steps ensure that the initiative builds resilience, restores dignity, and empowers widows to thrive in their communities.

Gratitude to Our Supporters

We extend heartfelt appreciation to all donors, supporters, and advocates who understand the challenges faced by widows.

Although no donations have yet been received for this project, your encouragement, advocacy, and awareness are invaluable.

We also thank GlobalGiving for providing a platform that connects grassroots initiatives with compassionate supporters worldwide, enabling us to deliver impactful programs for vulnerable populations.

Call to Action

Widows are resilient and capable, but they need support to rebuild their lives and regain independence.
By supporting the “Restoring Hope: Lifting 3000 Widows in Nigeria” project, donors can help:
• Provide training, mentorship, and resources for sustainable livelihoods
• Restore dignity, confidence, and hope to widows in need
• Enable widows to support their families and contribute to community development
• Create long-lasting social and economic impact
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps uplift widows and strengthen communities across Nigeria.

Closing Reflection

The widows we serve are not just beneficiaries—they are pillars of their families and communities.
With your support, SOHF can restore hope, build resilience, and empower 3000 widows to regain their independence, rebuild their lives, and inspire others in their communities.

Together, we can ensure that widows are supported, empowered, and celebrated as vital contributors to a stronger, more compassionate society.

With gratitude and hope,

Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF)
