Update on the progress report on

By Samuel Akaraonye | Founder/CEO

At Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF), we remain committed to empowering women and girls through education, leadership training, and skills development. The "Empower 300 Women & Girls in Southeast, Nigeria" initiative aims to equip women with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to achieve economic independence and leadership roles in their communities. This report outlines our activities, key partnerships, future prospects, and the challenges faced in implementing this project.

Partnership with the European Business University of Luxembourg (EBU)

A key highlight of our efforts has been the strategic partnership with the European Business University of Luxembourg (EBU). Through this collaboration, we have enrolled women and girls in two major certificate programs designed to enhance their leadership and vocational skills:

1. Women and Leadership Certificate Program (CP109)

This program is specifically designed to address gender disparities in leadership by equipping women with essential skills in governance, communication, and decision-making.

Topics covered include:

Leadership principles

Effective communication

Conflict resolution

Team management

By providing this opportunity, we aim to foster a new generation of female leaders in politics, business, and community development.

2. Vocational and Skills Training Certificate Program

This program is designed to equip women and girls with practical skills that can help them gain financial independence.

Areas of training include:

Fashion design and tailoring

Catering and food processing

Digital literacy and entrepreneurship

Agriculture and agribusiness

These vocational skills will enable participants to start their own businesses or secure sustainable employment.

Current Challenges

1. Lack of Funding – Despite the promising opportunities through our partnership with EBU, the lack of financial resources has slowed down some of our planned activities, such as securing training materials and supporting participants with startup grants.

2. Limited Access to Internet and Technology – Since the courses are online, many women, especially those in rural areas, face challenges accessing digital learning tools.

3. Cultural Barriers – Deep-rooted societal norms in some communities continue to hinder women’s participation in leadership and economic activities.

Future Prospects

Scaling Up Enrollment: We aim to increase the number of women and girls benefitting from the EBU programs by providing internet access and digital devices to participants in rural areas.

Expanding Vocational Training Centers: Plans are underway to establish physical training hubs where participants can gain hands-on experience in various vocational skills.

Seeking More Partnerships: We are actively engaging with local and international organizations to secure funding and additional training opportunities for women and girls.

Advocacy and Awareness: We will continue advocating for gender equality through workshops, policy dialogues, and community engagements.

Conclusion

Though we have not yet received funding for this project, our collaboration with EBU represents a major step forward in empowering women and girls in Southeast Nigeria. We remain optimistic about the impact of this initiative and are committed to securing the necessary resources to drive long-term change.

We sincerely appreciate the support of our partners and look forward to future contributions that will help us expand this project.

Best regards,
Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation
