Mahnoor-A dog bite victim

By Rubina Husain and Hareem Khalid Baig | Admin Assistant and Marketing Associate

Mahnoor has always been terrified of the stray dogs that roamed in her neighbourhood, but one day she was bitten on the face by a rabid dog. Her parents were not sure of what care was available, they rushed to a hospital in Thatta, however they were unable to get treatment for her due to a shortage of rabies vaccines - a necessary measure in case of rabid animal bites. Luckily the attending physician was aware of the Rabies Program at the SHINE Humanity Garibsons Facility in Gharo, and referred Mahnoor to SHINE Humanity

Concerned for the well-being of their daughter, the family quickly arrived to our clinic, where our team mobilized immediately. Her wound was thoroughly examined and washed, followed by the administration of Rabies vaccines. Our staff also emphasized the importance of follow-up care.

SHINE Humanity Clinics receive multiple rabid-animal bite cases weekly, indicating the need for preventative measures for this disease in rural communities.  All patients are seen by a doctor specifically trained to handle victims who have been bitten by pye-dogs. So far the clinic has successfully provided treatment to numerous patients, most of them young children, whose very lives would have been endangered if not for the timely intervention.

SHINE Humanity is grateful  to our donors whose generosity have allowed us to continue our mission of providing healthcare to underserved communities.
