Dear GlobalGiving donors to our lunch program for village girls attending the Lycee Moderne de l’Amitie (LMA). My name is Aguiratou. I am 20 years old and I am in my last year of secondary school at the LMA. My village is 45 km from Ouahigouya (which is 3 km from the LMA). My parents are farmers. After I finished primary school, my father wanted that I continue on to middle and secondary school and he found a family nearer the LMA who could take me in.
Every morning, I get up at 4am and go get water to fill the water containers for the family I stay with. At 6h30, I prepare for school and walk to school. Classes are from 7h00 – 12h00 and from 15h00 – 17h00.
The school canteen is so important, especially now when the average temperature is 45 degrees C (113 degrees F). Monday through Friday, we benefit from a hot meal of beans, rice or spaghetti and sauce. We spend the remainder of the midday pause studying our lessons under the trees.
When I finish secondary school, I hope to study civil engineering.
My sincere thank you for your support for our lunches which is a huge contribution to our education, the motor of all development.
