In our community, HIV-positive girls face a cruel turning point when they learn their status. Fear, stigma, and shame push many to drop out of school. Once they leave the classroom, they lose not only their education but also vital knowledge on how to live with the virus, adhere to treatment, and prevent further transmission. Without this guidance, many girls unknowingly spread HIV to young boys and peers, fueling the very crisis we seek to end.

Through mentorship, peer support groups, and health education integrated into daily learning, these girls gain the tools to manage their status, build self-esteem, and protect themselves and others. Through this initiative, we focus on training and equipping community elders as frontline defenders against child marriage. Elders hold trusted influence in their communities, making them ideal advocates for change. Our program provides structured training on the legal, health, and psychological consequences of child marriage, as well as effective negotiation and intervention strategies.

Beyond knowledge, we supply practical resources: informational booklets, referral forms, mobile phones for reporting cases, and small grants to organize community dialogues or rescue actions. Equipped this way, elders can monitor vulnerable households, counsel parents considering early marriage, liaise with local authorities and child protection hotlines, and lead awareness campaigns tailored to local customs.

By empowering elders with both skills and tangible support, we transform traditional authority into active child protection. This grassroots approach ensures early detection, culturally sensitive intervention, and sustained community ownership. Ultimately, the initiative creates a protective network where elders act as watchdogs, mediators, and educators—reducing child marriages and keeping girls in school and childhood.
