One Meal, One Hope: Feeding Brick Kiln School Children

Project Summary

"One Meal, One Hope" is a humanitarian initiative designed to provide daily nutritious meals to children studying in informal hut schools located in Pakistan’s brick kiln communities. These children come from families living in extreme poverty, often trapped in bonded labor, and many attend school on an empty stomach.

The project aims to ensure that at least one healthy meal is provided each school day, improving children’s nutrition, strengthening their ability to learn, and encouraging regular school attendance. By addressing hunger, this initiative supports both immediate well-being and long-term educational outcomes.

Problem Statement

Thousands of children in brick kiln areas face chronic hunger due to their families’ extremely low income, often less than $2 per day. As a result:

  • Children arrive at school without food
  • Malnutrition affects physical and cognitive development
  • Classroom concentration and performance decline
  • School dropout rates increase
  • The cycle of poverty and bonded labor continues

Without addressing basic nutritional needs, access to education alone is not sufficient to create lasting change.

Project Approach

This project provides daily nutritious meals to 300 children enrolled in hut schools near brick kilns. The program is designed to:

  • Deliver consistent, balanced meals during school hours
  • Improve children’s health, energy, and concentration
  • Increase school attendance and retention
  • Create a supportive and child-friendly learning environment

Meal distribution is carried out directly at the schools to ensure efficiency, transparency, and maximum impact.

Current Progress

We have successfully initiated meal distribution for brick kiln school children. Vulnerable students who previously attended classes hungry are now receiving regular meals.

Early observations indicate:

  • Improved student attentiveness and classroom participation
  • Increased school attendance
  • Positive feedback from teachers and families

To date, $1,021 has been raised out of the $20,000 goal, with $18,979 still required to fully implement and sustain the program.

Expected Outcomes

With full funding, the project will:

  • Provide daily meals to 300 children
  • Reduce hunger and malnutrition
  • Improve academic focus and performance
  • Increase school enrollment and retention

Long-Term Impact

This initiative contributes to long-term social change by:

  • Breaking the cycle of hunger and poverty
  • Supporting children to complete their education
  • Reducing vulnerability to bonded labor
  • Empowering a generation with better opportunities and dignity

Funding Need & Call to Action

Significant funding is still required to sustain and expand this effort. We invite:

  • Individual donors
  • Monthly supporters
  • Corporate and institutional partners

Every contribution directly provides meals and supports a child’s right to education and a better future.

Conclusion

"One Meal, One Hope" is more than a feeding program; it is a strategic intervention that addresses hunger as a barrier to education. By nourishing children today, we are investing in a stronger, more equitable future.

Together, we can ensure that no child is forced to learn on an empty stomach.
