One Million Leaders Africa Project

Immediately the OMLA Fellows recruited over 500 young people who are referred to as OMLA Stars, they embarked on THE STARS CHALLENGE  where they are currently executing the community-change project they applied for through their project proposals. 

Recall, that the OMLA Fellows alongside their Stars submitted their project proposals which were approved and supported by the OMLA secretariat with $300 each for the approved projects. 

 OMLA disbursed $6300 to sponsor 21 projects in 5 African countries which include Gambia, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon. The span of executing the community-Based Project is 4 months

Here are some of the Ongoing projects 

• Creating enabling community for youth entrepreneurship and leadership Creating an enabling community for youth entrepreneurship and leadership
• Fighting climate change and hunger
• Setting up indigenous seedbanks to combat the lack of quality crop seeds among farmers in Beau.
• Reforestation of Janneh Kundah community forest
• Waste Management, Recycling of Waste, Proper Waste Disposal, and Rubbish Disposal in a Hygienic Manner, in Bafoussam 
• Youth employment skills training.
• Mitigate teenage pregnancy and empower five teenage mothers in Bamenda I sub-division

Right from mid-April 2022,  OMLA Fellows have gone back to their communities and recruited over 500 young people (OMLA Stars), whom they are currently training on leadership, sustainability, social innovation, and social entrepreneurship skills after they (OMLA Fellows) have received these training from the OMLA Fellowship since January till date; alongside, preparing their OMLA Stars to execute community change projects in their localities.

Moreover, fellows are rounding off their training with the Stars and making preparations to launch into the next phase of the fellowship, THE STARS CHALLENGE. In this phase, OMLA Stars will execute the community-change project they applied for through their project proposals after receiving approval and support from the OMLA secretariat and recruit other young people that are passionate about change in their communities for the next 5 months. Some of the projects they would carry out include:

• IMPROVING THE NUTRITION OF UNDERNOURISHED SCHOOL CHILDREN THROUGH MUSHROOM FARMING
• MITIGATING CLIMATE CHANGE WITH CHILDREN AT THE FRONTLINE.
• REDUCING THE INCIDENCES AND CONSEQUENCES OF RAPE IN THE MOLYKO NEIGHBOURHOOD, SW CAMEROON 
• SETTING UP INDIGENOUS SEED BANKS TO COMBAT THE LACK OF QUALITY CROP SEEDS AMONG FARMERS, amongst others
