April 1st - Uganda Year 4 Launch!

By Lizzy Rainey | Special Projects Coordinator

Dear Friend,

Here we go! The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation is off to Uganda for the fourth year in a row. It is hard to believe we have come so far in just a few years, planting and distributing tens of thousands fruit trees to farmers, farmilies, and students and training hundreds of youth and community members in horticultural and tree care practices.

We are focused on Uganda for several reasons, but one of the most important is that this country and its people are some of the most vulnerable to the changing climate. We hear from our in-country partners and friends about longer periods of drought and hot weather combined with a drier, shorter rainy season. The effects are immediate and tangible, and food production and nutrition are going to be hit hard.

This is why we want to put trees in the ground nowAfter the first few years, fruit trees have long, strong roots that are able to reach the water table and survive periods of drought. Established trees will be able to produce and provide for local families whilst other water-intensive annual crops die or struggle to survive.

Our work is imperative for the health and well-being of Uganda. And you are helping us do it. THANK YOU for bringing the long-term solutions that fruit trees offer to those in Uganda in dire need of them.

Keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook feeds for updates from the field during our time in the country!

To a fruitful future,

The FTPF Team
