Palliative Care Program for Children with cancer

Tabletochki foundation takes care over 100 families with palliative kids. Overall expenses for Palliative program in July-August 2019 made $33534 (September is not included in the report as far as by now 3rd quarter 2019 report is not ready because of the obvious time reasons). We purchased medicines, medical equipment and consumable materials for $8593, we have provided the targeted assistance for $4576, special nutrition - $805, we paid for funeral services $2066, presents and home help - $276. Psychological support plays a big role in palliative care that is why we pay a lot of attention to it: we paid for psychology services $6535, $3750 for psychological parent`s meetings and $3206 for organizing a visit of our doctors and psychologists to Sweden. Next month 3 doctors, 2 psychologists and Tabletochki’s palliative program coordinator will visit Stockholm. They will have training there, will exchange experience with the Swedish colleagues, will visit hospice and palliative department in the hospital. Administrative expenses of the foundation in July-August 2019 made $3757.

Tabletochki foundation organized three meetings for parents who lost their children from cancer during July-September 2019. One of the meetings took place in the Carpathian Mountains in Bukovel. Twelve families lived for three days in a mountain camp with Foundation psychologists and volunteers. Parents worked extensively with our psychologists.

One of the mothers mentioned that she “thinks differently” outdoor, not like at traditional meetings in Kyiv. Another mom said: “It felt like we could still enjoy something. Everyone had a goal and motivation to move. On the way up the mountain everyone was in their thoughts, but we were all together and supporting each other. Shared with water, helped to climb through trees and streams. For the last three years it has been a whole new feeling for me. At the top of the mountain I had an euphoria and the thought that we are alive."

What we also do for our children under care is making their dreams come true. One of them was to see the sea. It was a dream of a little girl of five years old with lungs cancer. And we made it come true – she and her mother spent almost two weeks in the Black Sea region - in Odessa. During this time the girl managed to fall in love with the sea, explore all the playgrounds, get new friends, have lunch at a restaurant, get back home being the happiest girl in the world!

Not every child can be cured, but everyone can be helped. Everyone's life can be filled with joy to the end.

Tabletochki overall expenses for Palliative program in April-May 2019 made $16523 (June is not included in the report as far as by the 1^st of July 2nd quarter report is not ready because of the obvious time reasons). We purchased medicines and medical equipment for $4603, we have provided the targeted assistance for $2256, medical examination - $728, special nutrition - $271, we paid for funeral services $1509, we paid for psychology services $4483, psychological parents meetings - $627, we purchased consumable materials for $355, paid $28 for other expenses and $491 for memory day. Administrative expenses made $1172.

A special place in our palliative program is occupied by psychological meetings for parents. For now we have two groups monthly and the demand for them is growing. It is a good sign that we invite the right specialists and speak about the most important things for the parents who lost their kids from cancer.

On June 8^th 2019 Tabletochki held our fourth Memory day. Families, doctors, psychologists, foundation team, volunteers gathered together to recall children who died from cancer. Memory Day is about life and the fact that love and memory remain with us forever. And this is an extremely important day for our families. Here's what parents write: "Thank you for being in our life, for memory, for emotion, for the day spent in a circle of people close to the spirit! You give a new breath of air after a terrible loss. "
