Palliative care program report April-June 2018

By Anna Gutman | Fundraising department specialist

Palliative care program of the charity fund Tabletochki supports families with kids having incurable oncological illness or families who lost their children to cancer.

We provide such families with medications, care products and consumables. We organize psychological support by providing families with consultations of the psychologist. We also organize lectures and courses aimed to adjust families from all over Ukraine, who lost their children to cancer, to life after their loss.

During the period of April-June 2018 the expenses for the psychological support of palliative families equalled 2000 USD.

In April 2018 the expenses for medications equalled 5276 USD. We purchased Xalkori, Ceftazidime, Avastin, Metropenem-Vista, Irinotekan Medak etc.

We aslo spent 1395 USD for care products and consumables for our wards, such as cardio-peritoneal catheter 905S, wet wipes, diapers etc.

In May 2018 the expenses for medications equalled 4339 USD. We purchaesd Zivoks, Irinotekan Medak, Bioven Mono, Avastin, Oktagam, Linezolidin etc.

In May we also bought the following care products and consumables for our wards:rebreathing filter Hydro-Trach II for the patients with tracheostoma, dipaers, rebreathing filter (Intersurgical Limited) etc.,which costed 452 USD.

In June 2018 the expenses for medications equalled 1244 USD. We bought Metotreksat Teva, Aveloks, Xarelto, Pulmikort. We also spent 126 USD to buy such care products and consumables asabsorbing panties, catheter for theaspiration from the upper respiratory tract, iodoform bandage etc.

Therefore for the second quarter 2018 we spent 1972 USD for consumables and 10859 USD for medications for our Palliative care program.

Apart from providing families with medications, consumables and pychological assistance, we do our best to make the last months of our wards happier.

Oleg from Kamenskoye city is 12 years old. He has a brain tumor. The boy adores playing with Lego constructor, watches how to construct models in the Internet and keeps constructing objects by himself.

Oleg says that Lego is a love of his life, because it consists of the same letters as his name – O-L-E-G=L-E-G-O.

The left side of Oleg’s body is fully paralyzed and he moves in a wheelchair. Though he still has strength and will to play with Lego.

In June we presented Oleg a new Lego constructor and his mom wrote us: “Thank you for giving me a chance to see the smile of my son”.

We understand that not all ill children can survive cancer but we truly believe that all of them deserve comfortable and painless last months of their life. And we do our best to put our vision into practice.
