10th Congress of Junior Ambassadors for Peace

By Nadiia Pugach | Project Leader

On the International Day of Peace, Kyiv Specialized School #85 hosted a solemn event—the 10th Junior Ambassadors for Peace Congress, “All the World's Children for Peace!”

Despite all the obstacles, including an air raid siren, which the participants had to wait out in a bomb shelter, all participants arrived, and the event took place.

There were two stages to the Congress. In the first stage, on September 21, 29 participating schools held events dedicated to the International Day of Peace in their schools called “International Movement in Action.” On September 26, delegates from the schools joined to present the results of their activities.

First, the participants gathered in the schoolyard for the opening ceremony.  In her speech, the school's director, Ambassador for Peace Tetiana F., emphasized the importance of living and working in unity to build peace, especially in this difficult time for Ukraine.

The opening ceremony was traditionally followed by the Ukrainian national anthem and a minute of silence. This was followed by a flash mob by junior and senior high school students. The flash mob left no one indifferent. At the end of the first part, the students came out with flags of the countries of the world and took a joint photo.

The second part of the 10th Congress of Junior Ambassadors for Peace was held at the school under the theme “Children as Ambassadors for Peace.”

The congress was attended by ambassadors of peace, representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations, and educational institutions. Foreign guests were also invited.

Welcoming the participants, Mykhailo I. noted that today's event is a jubilee for the Congress of Junior Ambassadors for Peace, which is ten years old.

Ksenia Abramovich, Head of the Coordinating Council of the Children's Ambassadors for Peace civic movement and youth ambassador for peace, was also reminded of this. She spoke about the ten-year activity of the Peace School, showing the video “Pages of History of the Congress Diary.”

Speeches by foreign guests via the Internet, Head of the Universal Peace Federation of Central Europe, Dr. Dieter S., Head of the Thousand Cranes Foundation, Nobuko O., and Youth Ambassador for Peace from Poland, Kinga F., supported the children in their speeches.

The active “Peace School” participants were awarded the honorary title of “Junior Ambassador for Peace.”

Olena S., representative of the Secretariat of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO, also joined the welcoming speech. She was inspired and thanked for organizing and promoting such events among young people.

The draft resolution 10 of the Congress of Young Ambassadors for Peace was read by Ksenia A., Chair of the Coordinating Council.

In conclusion, the slogan that always unites all the participants in Congress was heard:

“Peace to our home! Peace to your home! Peace to the planet Earth!”

THE SUNFLOWER IS YELLOW, THE SKY IS BLUE, AND EVERYONE IN UKRAINE IS UNITED!!!
