From April 18th to 20th

40 volunteers traveled to the Gechuanjian Scenic Area in Huangshan City to complete a 12-kilometer mountain cleanup initiative. During the process, the volunteers not only had to overcome the physical challenges of hiking but also diligently collected scattered litter along the mountain trails. By the end, everyone's bags were full, yet they still couldn't remove all the trash from the mountain. Many participants felt a sense of helplessness. However, even the small actions of these 40 individuals made the mountain cleaner than before. In total, the group collected approximately 50 kilograms of outdoor waste, including around 28 kilograms of recyclables—777 plastic bottles and 146 metal cans. Through this cleanup effort, the hope is to raise awareness about the importance of "carrying out your own trash" and to advocate for the value of personal outdoor waste management in promoting "Leave No Trace" practices.

On April 26th

5 volunteers took to the streets of Shanghai, meticulously picking up litter along a 1-kilometer stretch. Despite their thorough efforts, time was limited. In just over an hour of cleaning, they collected 3 kilograms of outdoor waste but gathered a staggering 1,072 pieces of trash, including 569 cigarette butts. One shared bicycle basket was completely filled with garbage, turning it into a forgotten "bike trash bin." The volunteers worked hard to restore it, hoping it could continue serving other riders. Once again, we urge everyone to carry their trash and refrain from casually discarding cigarette butts!

January-February

In 2025, Pick Up China will continue to mobilize ENPOs in China to participate in long-term clean-up and research actions for outdoor waste. By the end of February, more than 60 partners had signed up for the clean-up program, of which more than 20 partners had cleaned up 1,978 kilograms of outdoor waste, including 1,789.23 kilograms of plastic waste, and successfully recycled 743.81 kilograms of plastics, with an effective recycling rate of 41.5%. At the same time, through partners, the programme continues to mobilize and organize more members of the public to participate in garbage pick-up operations, pay attention to waste issues, and reduce waste generation.

March
Starting in March, the garbage clean-up campaign for the new year has also begun to be put on the agenda. By the end of March, two clean-up activities had been completed. On March 1st, the team and 33 volunteers came to the Binjiang Forest Park in Shanghai to clean up the garbage that had accumulated and slept in the sea for a winter. The weather was very good that day, and there were many people who came to the park. While everyone worked hard to pick it up, people passing by also gave encouragement and admiration. The members of the team also completed the picking and garbage sorting very seriously, and reported that they would like to continue to pick up next time, and they think that such a partner is very interesting and meaningful. Finally, with the joint efforts of everyone, a total of 61.69 kilograms of marine drifting garbage were cleaned up, including 0.43 kilograms of recyclable plastic waste such as plastic bottles, and 41.05 kilograms of other plastic waste.

On March 29th, the team and 43 volunteers went to a garbage-plagued tidal flat in the Dongtan Wetland in Chongming District, Shanghai, to clean up the floating garbage buffered by reeds. Through group and carpet clean-up operations, a total of 247.71 kilograms of marine drifting garbage were cleaned up, of which 97.94 kilograms of plastic garbage may be recycled. On the round-trip bus, Pickup China explained and interacted with the volunteers to make them more aware of the meaning behind the pick-up action and the necessity of reducing waste at the source.
