2024 Pickup China's Work Progress in June

By Caicai Wang | Chief Executive Officer

The Pickup China team achieved the following progress in public education, communication, and advocacy in June:

By the end of June, partners of the Bag-it-Away program had initiated 149 pick-up activities and 26 advocacy events, engaging a total of 4,421 volunteers. Collectively, they cleared 3,927.09 kilograms of outdoor waste and effectively recycled 1,230.36 kilograms of plastic waste. This included not only high-value plastic recyclables such as bottles but also low-value, hard-to-recycle plastics like soft packaging and foam.

From June 1st to June 15th, in celebration of 6.5 World Environment Day, Pickup China launched a pick-up campaign alongside online interactions. Thirty-eight partners participated, successfully organizing 50 pick-up actions that attracted 1,693 volunteers. Together, they cleared 1,683.8 kilograms of outdoor waste, including 433.7 kilograms of plastic recyclables. Concurrently, the online H5 interactive event garnered 194 stories, with 3,094 user engagements and 11,201 likes distributed.

On June 20th, Pickup China commenced the 2024 Outdoor Waste Basic Research Initiative, aiming to involve the public in addressing and promoting the resolution of outdoor waste issues with a more rigorous and scientific approach. To date, over 30 partners have enrolled.
