We have been working hard with our new community project replication in San Jose de Rivas Costa Rica to plant 2500 more diverse rainforest trees on 7 different family farms. We "teach" farmers about mechanics of long term reforestation through the actual hands on work of touring their farms, designing the project, selecting species and doing the actual work of planting the trees to restore and regenerate their own deforested and degraded lands.
The energy is high and people are receiving techical assistance and fair pay for planting trees the first time in their lives. While it has not been easy to create and manage a collaborative model with over 7 families, and 35 new workers including women working in our new tree nursery in this community, we have finally arrived to a smooth understanding and level of growth within the project. Indeed, our work is about regrowing rainforest and fertile soils and protecting water for future generations for all the benefits it provides for all of us no matter where we live. But we cannot do this environmental restoration work without considering the social pressures that insure its success or failure.
Our holistic model addresses these social issues as well, which might be more difficult and important after all than even planting and growing the trees themselves. After all, changing the consciousness of people who previously only cut down trees through fair pay for every hour and accountability for every tree means that every tree we plant now will be protected and accounted for over the long term.
Thank you for your continued support of our long term work. We will continue to follow up every tree you sponsor and create sustainable jobs that grow resilient forest communities. Spetember 12, 2018 is BONUS day so please sponsor a tree and receive 2 trees for 1 thanks to our partnership with Global Giving!!
