Our commitment to save the lives of those affected by war in DRCongo has not changed: The Porridge Project is one among our activities.
Let us begin with this quote from Archbishop John Baptist Odam (former Catholic Archbishop in Gulu-Uganda when meeting children victims of war “ My brothers and sisters, I’m so sorry, please forgive me, I know I have not yet done enough for you to leave in peace, please forgive and pray for me so that I may do more”
War continues to force thousands of people in DRC to displacement towards areas where they do not have access to the basic needs. Each day at least 150 people are forced to leave their homes and villages towards forests. Some have been facing displacement each 4 or 5 years in their lives since 1996 up today, and as we know it since 2021 many people in eastern DRC have been on the run up to now.
Children and women have been particularly the most vulnerable, they lost everything they had, in the process they first of all confronted to malnutrition, Cholera, Malaria and other diseases which have claimed the lives of many.
As a local initiative, we have not remained indifference, we moved on various actions and may be because of our actions thousands of people are still breathing now. Sometimes it is about mobilizing resources from the communities, and promoting solidarity amongst people in order to help those in great needs. No one has documented all these but they remain important in order to play a positive role, sometimes it about mobilizing everyone in order help the most vulnerable.
Our Porridge activities has for the last few months focused on helping war victims from Kivu now in Internally Displaced Camps around Kalemie city Tanganyika Province which hosts thousands of people in four different camps.
We thank you so much for the support and kindly request to continue supporting us because the needs are great, many children are suffering from the malnutrition and are yearning for our solidarity.
