Project Report | Oct 25, 2017
Planning in Progress

By Emma Fleming | Grants & Fundraising Coordinator

With such a busy schedule of events coming up, and having spoken to the young people we support, we have decided to delay the introduction of our Positive Steps programme until the new year when those attending can really focus on the educational and motivational benefits.

This is not to say we are not busily working with our volunteers and providers to ensure the programme is jam-packed with information, new skills and advice for the young people attending.

The first workshop will focus on development of CVs, showing the young people how to structure the document and understand and describe their experiences and skills. The young people will then be asked to prepare for an interview before attending the second workshop, where they will undergo a mock interview enabling them to practise answers to possible questions, as well as decide on what approach they want to take to talking about their illnesses.

The third session will focus on IT Skills, ensuring that the young people are proficient in Microsoft Office; a skill looked for by many employees.

We have had lots of interest from the young people we support about the Postive Steps Programme, and we hope this will be the first of many programmes we provide, so please keep helping us fund the scheme and help young people with cancer gain the confidence, knowledge and motivation to return to employeement, and plan for a future beyond cancer.
