Hi Friends! We are sending gratitude to You, our supporters!
Your donation allows Project Soar to tackle period poverty and menstrual insecurity by distributing shame-free, eco-friendly period supplies to teen girls living in underserved rural areas throughout Morocco and providing them with menstrual awareness and education! It is also thanks to you that Soar Girls have access to a brighter future filled with opportunities!
A few days ago the world celebrated Menstrual Hygiene Day ! The international attention and commitment being awarded to this cause shows its importance but also the amount of work that is still yet to be done for every woman and girl to be able to afford period products and access proper education on menstruation.
Here in Morocco, taboos and misconceptions about periods are still rampant and period poverty is a problem that many girls and women face. According to a study conducted on middle school and high school girls in Marrakech, girls are often unprepared for their periods. Therefore they tend to be scared and react negatively to their first menstruation and although they get some information about it from their female family members they still hold misconceptions that can become dangerous as they relate to their health and hygiene. That is why we focus on the importance of properly managing your period during our workshops with Soar Girls and they learn how to care for their body during this time that is natural and a part of most womens’ lives!
“ Before I even got my period, I used to see how my sister was managing her period, and also my mom used to talk to me about it. But it is when I started attending the Soar workshops, that I got really educated about menstrual hygiene.” - Hind, Soar Girl
As we are working towards a day where every woman and girl is awarded with proper education and access to period products, we would like to thank you once again for your support! Period kits help keep girls stay in school, increase their confidence, and reduce the risk of child marriage and teen pregnancy! Never doubt you are making a difference!
Warmest wishes,
Project Soar team
